Mrs. Mary Coiner Alexander, 83, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Walnut Hill Convalescent Center. She was a native of Charlottesville and the daughter of the late Samuel Flory and Lelia Ellis Gardner Coiner. In addition to her parents, a son, James F. Alexander, preceded her in death. Mrs. Alexander taught Sunday School for many years at Walnut Hill Baptist Church and was a volunteer at Walnut Hill Convalescent Center.
She is survived by her husband, Burton F. Alexander Sr.; two sons, Burton F. Alexander Jr. of New Kent County, Va., and Peter L. Alexander of Los Angeles, Calif.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J.W.Vorous of Hagerstown, Md., and several nieces and nephews, to include Betty Parr of Charlottesville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Southlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Rick Allison, pastor of Walnut Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.
