Robert Donald Bolling, 77, a long time resident of Petal, passed away on February 21, 2013, at Forrest General Hospital, surrounded by his family. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church Runnelstown followed by burial in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert was born on March 17, 1935 in Montgomery, Alabama to Z.E. and Essie Bolling. He was employed by the Merchants Company from 1969 until 1980 and then joined Petal Cleaners as Plant Manager until his retirement in 1997.

Music had a huge impact on Robert's life. His most important and influential work was serving in the music ministry for forty years. It was in this service to his Lord and Savior that he found the most fulfillment. His ministry influenced thousands of people as he led music in several area churches including Macedonia Baptist Church in Petal for nineteen years, Fellowship Baptist Church in Moselle for fourteen years and most recently, First Baptist Church Runnelstown for seven years. He touched hundreds of other lives through music as he led revivals throughout Southeast Mississippi and Alabama. Robert's love of music is his legacy that will continue for generations because of the appreciation and passion for music that he instilled in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved being with his family and especially enjoyed their family singing group that performed at local churches and family gatherings.

Robert was a family man. Nothing pleased him more than being with his children and grandchildren. His family will greatly miss the man who influenced them in such a Christ-like manner. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Ishmael Prater Bolling; three sons, Mike (Becky) and Ricky (Sharon) both of Petal and Ronnie (Tara) of Starkville; one daughter, Jan (Steve) Graham of Petal; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home in Petal.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church Runnelstown (9211 Highway 42, Petal, MS 39465) or that Bibles be donated through the Gideon's International organization.
