Born in Providence on Aug. 19, 1948, he is the son of Earl Roy and Marjorie (Sebastian) Colebut Jr., of Ledyard.
Mr. Colebut was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, having served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, an Overseas Bar, two Vietnam Service Medals, a Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and a Sharpshooters Badge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Most recently, he held the position as tribal gaming commissioner for Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, and also served as deputy director of employee relations.
Surviving besides his wife and parents are three sons, Roy E. Colebut Jr., of Griswold, and Bevin Ingram and Jerrod Steele, both of Ledyard; four grandchildren, Deryn Lopes, Roy E. Colebut III, Jayaida Colebut and Anajah Ingram; a brother, Arnold Colebut, and a sister, Diane Pope, both of Providence; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Temple Steele.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Mashantucket Spiritual Center, 938 Shewville Road, Ledyard, where the funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with burial to follow in the Mashantucket Tribal Burial Grounds.
