Bertha Lee Young Lawson, 98, of LaFayette, Georgia, native of Sparta, Tennessee was called home to be with her Lord and Savior November 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 61 years, Orville Roy Lawson, her daughters Willle Bell Voiles and Ruby Lawson, grandsons, James Lawson (JD) and Ronald and Neal Voiles.
She is survived by nine of her children, Phyllis (Creed) Simmons, Harly Lawson,
Harold (Sarah) Lawson, Larry Lawson, Retha (Mike) Aters, Jimmy Lawson,
Charles (Nikki) Lawson, Wayne Lawson, Raymond Lawson, 12 grandchildren,
16 great grandchildren and several great- great grandchildren. On July 27, 1923, God sent an angel to earth. She gave birth to eleven children, raising ten of those and one called back to heaven as an infant. Our Mother was the most kind, loving, thoughtful, faithful and devoted person we have ever known. She nurtured her children with the greatest love and always setting an example of how a mother and Christian should be. She sacrificed worldly possessions so her children could have a better life. She loved the Lord with all her heart and made sure her children knew of her salvation. Our Mother spent many countless hours praying for her children and wanting us to have the same personal relationship with the Lord. She was not only a mother to us, but a Sunday School teacher at Waterville Baptist Church where she also nurtured many children and taught them about the Lord. Our Mother was the oldest member of her church. Our hearts feel great sorrow for our loss but what a homecoming mom is having and we know that one day we too will be reunited with her. An angel has been called back to heaven. Services will be Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Young Cemetery. Thurman Funeral Home is Honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
