GALESBURG - Omal C. Whalen, 88, Galesburg, died at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Irvington, the daughter of Elmer P. and Cora A. Raines Outland. She married Glenn U. Whalen on June 16, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1963.
Surviving are daughters, Joyce (Ron) Sensabaugh of Silvis and Donna (Gene) Ebert of New Market, Ala.; grandchildren, Marc (Emma) Ebert of Sugar Grove, Laura (Jon) Dahl of Plainfield, and Scott (Amber) Sensabaugh of East Moline; great-grandchildren, Helaina and Ian Dahl, Bryce and Breanna Ebert, Aiden and Landon Sensabaugh; sisters, Eula Foshee and Clara Donoho of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Dan Williams of Morrison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepmother, three brothers, three sisters, one infant sister.
She was employed by Sears for 27 years, her last position as service manager.
She was a member of the Galesburg American Legion, Women of the Moose, and the Sears Retiree Group. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loved country and gospel music and playing bingo. She also enjoyed living at The Kensington for six years, appreciating the staff and friends she made. A special thanks to Compassus Hospice Staff for their loving care and support.
As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia at a later date. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences and sympathy cards may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
