Harley F. Dalton was born October 15, 1911, in LeRoy Illinois, to Francis M. and Hattie E. (Prather) Dalton died February 7, 1991, at McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 79 years, three months and 22 days.

He came to South Dakota when he was seven years old and attended school in Holabird. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He was united in marriage to Esther K. Rittel on September 27, 1933, by Rhoda Jane Dickinson at the Congregational Parsonage in Highmore, South Dakota. To this union four children were born.

He and his family farmed for three years and then moved into Highmore in 1936 where he went to work for Preston Kelley. In 1942 he went to work for Millard Kiel and remained there for 20 years. He built the Korn Krib in 1950 and operated it for 10 years. He then became a carpenter until his retirement.
