"The time you won your town the race,
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

Today, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down
Townsman of a stiller town..."

Words from just a few of the many whose lives Cody touched...

I didn't really know Cody, he was quite a bit younger than me, but I do know that every time I saw him he had a smile on his face and he comes from an extraordinary family. After reading everything everyone else has shared, all their memories and stories of him, I know that I want to strive to raise my children to be someone like Cody. Someone who always smiled and always made people smile, someone who was there for anyone that needed him, someone that loved unconditionally, and most important someone that truly shined the light of Jesus every single day. So even though I really didn't know Cody, he has inspired me in so many ways. - Kelsie Payne Oaks, Alex graduate

Coming up with some words to say about Cody Blaine Alexander is difficult. He was so much to so many! Special memories of him in... elementary PE, football games, around school, after-prom last year, flash through my mind. Every memory of him, a smile upon his face. And this picture... It says so much about who Cody was. He was a someone you could hold on to. Someone always facing the Son. Someone ready to tackle the next adventure. I am so glad my son got to hold your hand and make many memories with you! You left your stamp on all our hearts, now it's time you for to receive your eternal reward! - Mrs. Otey, Alex teacher

I am truly devastated at the loss of a wonderful Christian young man who was truly a stand up guy- nothing but respectful and joyful- and someone I hope my sons grow to be like someday- teaching him and being blessed by him in our senior class was an honor- and I just can't understand this tragic loss/ my heart goes out to his wonderful family and all of our students and I pray for some peace can comfort everyone- he will never be forgotten- he had a wonderful smile and was truly a class act... - Mrs. Bunch, Alex teacher

Such a sad day in our community with the loss of Cody Alexander. I will miss that sweet smile and personality that he had. He was taken way too soon from his family and friends... He will missed so much by so many people... - Erin Byrne Garcia, Alex resident

I always tell the kids I love, there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Cry, scream, laugh, talk, be still, all at once or as it waves. Ask someone to hold you, tell someone to let you be, but grieve. What it takes for you to say goodbye is the right way. Remember to allow each other the courtesy to find their way. Find each others' arms and take this journey together. May you make Cody smile by standing tall in his shadow. May God give you peace and comfort, as only He can. - Tammy Garrett, Ninnekah resident

Because we grew up in a small community, we don't know what it is like to go through tragedies alone. It doesn't mean we've never felt alone, but deep down, through the pain, we know there are loving arms close-by.

We know that when someone says they are praying for us, they do it. We know that when someone asks what they can do for us, they mean it. We know that just when all hope seems lost, a simple act of kindness can shed a glimmer to keep us going. We can all show love, and that's all that is needed at times like these.

I am thankful for my community; for the bonds that are shared, for the kind deeds that are done, and for the love that is expressed through actions that may seem insignificant, but mean so much. Be somebody's shoulder to cry on. Be somebody's rock. - Nicole Anderson Bauman, long-time Alex resident
