Fannie Elizabeth McGowan by Betty Watts Streckfuss:
Fannie McGowan was a Walker Co resident from a very large family of McGowans who still reside in the area. They are all founders, deacons, members of the Baptist Church in Kansas, Al which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2001. This writer and her husband (Betty Lee Watts Streckfuss) were privileged to attend as guests of cousin Louis Fikes Estes and husband Bascombe. The program materials had copies of records which showed McGowan, Fikes and Watts as founding members and early deacons in the church. Fannie and Oscar were in many of the pictures displayed and there were pictures of large McGowan reunions also displayed which were held in the lawn of Oscar and Fannie Fikes.
