Robert Allred, 91, widower of Jessie Elam Allred, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at his home with his family by his side.
A native of Moore Co., N.C., he was the son of the late Charlie Walter Allred and Annie Hicks Allred.

Mr. Allred retired from the sheet metal department of Newport News Shipbuilding after 30 years of service.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, Edgar Allred, Walter Allred and Charlie Allred.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol A. Moss, of Hampton; sister, Margaret Allred Parsons, of Candor, N.C.; grandchildren, Richard H. Moss, Jr., of Newport News, Melinda Moss Boerner and her husband, Sean, of Chester, Va.; great-grandchildren, Richard H. Moss, III, and Robert W. Moss, both of Newport News, and Mark B. Boerner and Shannon J. Boerner, both of Chester, Va.

Special thanks to Heartland Hospice and nurses, Julie Marcella and Patty Tuttle, aide, Dorothy Davis and Chaplain Herbert Bowman; and a very special thanks to family, friends, neighbors and especially Laymond North for his countless hours of help and support.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
