After moving to Middletown in 1980, she attended Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. Prior to her retirement as executive secretary for the chief engineer at the Washington terminal at Union Station, she lived in Silver Spring for 27 years.
Surviving are two sisters, Anne Randallette of Kensington and Bettie Sapp of Fairfield, Pa.; a brother, Noel Williams of Brunswick; and a number of nieces and nephews, including nephew John Hedges and wife Pat of Walkersville.
Mrs. Ayres was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruth; sisters Sally Williams and Jane Hedges; brothers Herschel Williams, William Williams, Donald Williams and Beachly Williams; and a great-niece, Cathy A. Hedges.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick; interment was private.
