Shelbina Democrat, 18th.

One of the saddest things that ever happened occurred just north of Hunnewell last Wednesday. Mr. O'Brien, who lives six or seven miles nearly north of Hunnewell, in the edge of Marion county, sent his two little boys to town on two gentle horses to get some kerosene oil. When little over a mile from that place the horse suddenly became frightened, wheeled around, threw the boys off, and started at full speed towards home. McMurty O'Brien, who was about 18 years of age, had tied the hitch rein around his body, and when he fell off this brought him right in front of the horse, which frightened the animal and he ran, meanwhile striking poor "Mac" with his hoofs. Some men saw the occurrence and hastened to the rescue; one getting the horse that had thrown the younger boy, Charley, pursued the other, but was unable to catch him. The poor boy was literally torn to pieces by the horse's hoofs, and his remains were gathered up along the road and taken to his distracted parents. Charley was unharmed. Mrs. O'Brien is a daughter of the late Mr. McMurty of Shelbyville, and a sister of Mrs. A> R. Graham, of this place. Of course the afflicted parents have the sympathy of everyone; but what is human sympathy at such a time4?
