Patrick F Walsh was born in County Cork, Ireland, August, 5th 1837. Patrick came to the United States in 1855 where he settled in the town of Hollidaysburg, PA and soon joined the local state militia, The Emmet Guard, Forth Brigade, which was comprised of Irishmen from the Pennsylvania coal mining region.

When the Civil War broke out, he briefly served in a three month unit, then reenlisted as a private in Co E of the 84th Pennsylvania Volunteer infantry and rose up in rank to be commissioned a captain. He was wounded at the battle of Winchester (1862) and honorable discharged.

Walsh became active in the Fenian Brotherhood and moved to California, where he was remained active for Irish independence, often entertaining the Fenian leaders when they would travel to California and be prominent during rallies and Fenian State conventions.

He was appointed as Adjutant General of the California National Guardin 1876 and served four years. Later, he became involved in mercantile business in Mexico but returned to in 1884, where he was appointed Registrar of Voters in San Francisco for three years. President Cleveland appointed him Pension Agent for California in 1894, serving until 1898. He was a member of the George H Thomas Post #2 GAR, Military Order of the Loyal Legion and Valley Lodge No 30. A.O.U.W.

General PF Walsh was originally buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery but was reinterred when the cemetery was moved to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
