Charles R. Akard May 16, 1938 - Jan. 3, 2011

Charles R. Akard, 72, of Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Sheridan, passed away Jan. 3, 2011. Born May 16, 1938, he was the son of Kenneth and Geraldine Akard.

He was married for 28 years to Shirley Akard, she survives.

He proudly served his country as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army for 31 years. He was a former policeman, firefighter and Town Council President for the town of Sheridan. He was a past Master of the Sheridan Masonic Lodge and lifelong member of the American Legion. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; sons, Daniel Akard of Florida and Bruce Akard of Virginia; step-son, Sam Able of Kansas; daughters, Sherri Akard of Texas, Lisa Reed of Indiana and Allison Lockwood of Indiana; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St. in Sheridan.

There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Memorial Service at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at a later date.
