DEATH OF VICTOR SPETHMAN
For several days past all hope of the recovery of Mr. Victor Spethman has been abandoned and death came to the relief of the patient sufferer late Saturday night.
Mr. Spethman was a sufferer of severe stomach complication. His physicians at last found only one hope of a cure -- that of an operation. This was undertaken about ten days or two weeks ago and for a time there was a promise of a recovery and cure but an opposite tide set in and could not be stemmed.
Mr. Spethman was one of the oldest children of Mr. and Mrs. John Spethman. He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, in 1846 and came with his parents to this country in the sixties. In the earlier years he was on a farm, later assisted his father and brother Charles in the book store in this city, and recently had retired from active work, residing with his sister, Mrs. Louise Hedde. He leaves three brothers, Richard, Charles and Leopold and five sisters, Mrs. Hedde, Mrs. Strattmann, Mrs. D. Heuck of Ord, Mrs. Viereggg and Mrs. Robert Freitag to mourn his loss.
The deceased was a kindly-hearted and God-fearing and law-respecting man and citizen and the mourning relatives have the condolence of all who knew him.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday morning from the English Lutheran church at 10:30 o'clock. Those friends wishing to view the remains may do so at the home of Mrs. Hedde, Hedde building, tomorrow afternoon between the hours of 2 to 4 o'clock.
