'The Memphis Reveille' Thursday May 1, 1879
"Obituary - Smith- Near Memphis, Mo. April 28, 1879, in the 78th year of his age, William Smith.
He was born on the eastern shores of Maryland, Nov. 20, 1801; moved from there to Woodford county, Ky., in an early day with his father; from thence to this county in 1843, where he lived until the evening he entered upon the joys of his eternal home. He bore his sufferings with meekness and has passed to the land immortal, where no sorrow ever comes. We rejoice that death had no sting for him, and that he died in the triumphs of faith, confiding in the Saviour, in whom he had believed and trusted as a christian for more than a half a century.

An effort was made by the writer to comfort the bereaved, and to admonish all by the utterance of some thoughts suggested by 2d Tim., 4th chap., and 7th verse: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course" etc. H.A. Northcutt." Spouse of Sarah O. Evans, father of 8 children: William D., Margaret H., Jefferson B., James T., Edward Jackson; Alexander C., Albert T. and Robert T. Smith.
