"Fred was a resident of Portland for about 55 years. He and his wife lived at 1510 NE 19th Avenue. He was owner of Fred E. Alsop Co. paint suppliers. He had been secretary-treasurer of the Portland Oregon Paint, Varnish and Laquer Association and active in the association for 38 years. In the fall of 1971 he received the Industry Statesman Award for service to the paint industry. He was one of the persons instrumental in starting the Toy and Joy Maker program, in which fireman repair old toys for distribution to needy children at Christmas. Fred was a member of the Al Kader Temple, the Knights Templar and Scottish Rite. He died at the age of 74 of a heart attack at Gearhart, Oregon. His funeral was 2:30 Wednesday in J.P. Finley & Son. Private interment followed at Skyline Memorial Gardens. Fred was survived by his wife Lucia; a sister, Mrs. Henry de Mond, Hollywood, CA.; and a brother, Carlton, Pasadena, CA." Son of Arthur Alsop and Jennie Lelia Smith.
