Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 34th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was mortally wounded at the May 16, 1863 Bsttle of Champion Hill, Mississippi during the Vicksburg Campaign. He lingered for a month before dying of his wounds.
