Eleanor was born to Robert Henry and Mabel Beatrice(VanHouten)Clark.
Eleanor was a 1939 graduate of Nyack High School. Eleanor worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 30 years. While working for the Navy's nuclear submarine division, she was an inspector and monitored the quality level of various defense contractors. he was proud of her involvement with the work on Apollo 11 space shuttle mission. She was responsible to see that the bolts of the capsule released upon return impact into the ocean. Eleanor retired in 1979 and received letters of commendation for doing her part, especially as a woman, in the defense department. She was, in fact , not only the first female nuclear radiologist in New York, but the entire Country as per the letter she received in congratulations.

Eleanor was a member of the D.A.R. for most of her life, former Regent Oneonta and current member of Shikelimo.

She had a great interest in sailing and traveling the world. She told of wanting a sailboat when young and her father told her that he would get her a boat when she could swim the Hudson River. Apparently she trained and swam daily until she could cross the Hudson, thus earning her beloved sailboat.

Eleanor had a great interest in genealogy and belonged to the Assoc. of Blauvelts Decendents, where she was a past officer.

Surviving is a cousin Barbara Bollinger of Williamsburg Va. She was Predeceassed by her life long friend Vivian Newstrom in 2006 and two cousins Wallace and James VanHouten.

She was my distant cousin and dear friend and is sorely missed.
