William Marion Hooper was born in Coles County, Illinois, October 14, 1858, died in Girard, Kansas, May 13, 1919, aged 60 years and seven months. In 1865 his father moved with his family to Neosho county, Kansas, in which state the remainder of his life has been spent. In 1883 Mr. Hooper and miss Sarah Tharp were united in Marriage at St. Paul, Kansas. Six children were born into this home. Mrs. Nellie Barker of Pittsburg, Kansas, Mrs. Myrtle Hartsock, Kinsley, Kansas, Mrs. Ada Jackson, Joplin, Mo., Will Hooper, Guss Hooper and Miss Edith Hooper of Girard, Kansas. These children and the wife survive him. He is also survived by three sister and three brothers: Mrs. S. F. Baldridge, Tulsa, Okla., S. S. Hooper, Elgin, Oregon, James Hooper, Elgin, Oregon, Mrs. Carrie Churchill, Chanute, Kansas, Mrs. Julia Finefeild, Baxter Springs, Kansas and J. C. Hooper of Davenport, Iowa. In 1888 he came with his family to this city where he has made his home. In 1896 he entered business in Girard continuing until the break in health in 1912, compelled him to retire. Brother Hooper was a member of the Methodist church and was faithful to his vows, attending and taking an interest in the church and its work. A kind neighbor, a loving husband and father, he gave to his home the best that was in him. Here he will be missed most as is always the case. But not in the home alone will this be true; in the larger circle of the community life his absence will be noted and his friends will feel the loss his going away has brought to them. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church, the pastor, Rev. B. R. Smith officiating.
