Alton Telegraph - Jerseyville - Clarence A. Brooks, 82, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1994, at his home.
He was a former Jersey County farmer. From 1961 to 1986 he was a barber in Springfield and Sherman, retiring in 1986. A member of the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville and Jerseyville Masonic Lodge 394, he was a 1930 graduate of Jersey Township High School.
Born in Kane June 30, 1912, he was the son of the late Ray P. and Callie (Hutchens) Brooks.
He married the former Lois E. Hefner Feb. 28, 1934, in Jerseyville. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol J. and Gordon Geil of East Alton and Judith A. and Frank Fulkerson of Macomb; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Wilma A. Brooks of Jerseyville and Richard and Linda L. Brooks of Chatham; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minta Gross of Medora and Vivian Jackson of Winchester; and a brother, Howard Brooks of Jerseyville.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Althea and Wanda Brooks, and two brothers, Everett and Ralph Brooks.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Visitation continues from 10 a.m. Friday until service time at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. The Rev. Roger Jackson will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be made to the elevator fund of the church.
