Joe R. Gholson, 71, of Desoto, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at the Veterans' Medical Center in Marion, IL.
    He was born in Broughton, IL on February 27, 1929 to John and Georgia Gholson. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran, as well as a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a former Post Commander of the American Legion Post 771 in Gurnee. A Lake County resident for more than 40 years, he moved to Desoto following his retirement as a groundskeeper at Adlai Stevenson High School in Prairie View.
    Survivors include 4 children, Catherine (Hugh) McCann of Gurnee, Thomas Gholson of Waukegan, Anita Sibley of Gurnee and David (Kathy) Gholson of Gurnee; 7 grandchildren, Christine (Charles) Rich, Derrick Sibley, Marc Edwards, Nicholas McCann, Kevin McCann, Alexander Gholson and Caitlin McCann; 2 great grandchildren, Miles Rich and Skye Edwards; 3 brothers, James Gholson of Carmi, IL, Charles Gholson of McLeansboro, IL and Jerry Gholson of Evansville, IN; 4 sisters, Sylvia Drosdahl of Las Vegas, NV, Elsie Auxier and Annette Webb of McLeansboro, IL and Elizabeth Neal of Marion, IL; as well as a host of nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. His parents and 2 brothers, John and Dick, preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at the GHOLSON FUNERAL HOME in McLeansboro, IL. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his honor.
