Roy Pogue, 90, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2005, at his daughter's home in Georgetown.
He was born on July 13, 1914 in Travis County. Roy was one of 11 children born to Claude and Mattie Awalt Pogue. He lived all his life in Creedmoor. his roots go deep, planted before Texas' independence and statehood.
Mr. Pogue was a retired carpenter and a farmer. He initiated into the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Carpenters and Millwrights Local 1266 on January 13, 1946, being an honorary member of 59 years. One of his proudest moments was receiving his gold card. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1735.
Mr. Pogue was always ready to help family and friends when needed. he ws known to be generous with fresh produce from his large garden. He enjoyed a good night of coon hunting, was always ready for a game of dominoes (especially with his grandchildren), and was known by the ladies as an enthusiastic dancer. He loved his farm but was most proud of his family.
Mr. Pogue is survived by his children: Ruth Clark and husband Gary of Waco, Leslie Pogue and wife Jeanette of Crosby, Lester Pogue and wife Jackie of Channelview, Evelyn Syler and husband Hubert of Georgetown, Wessley Pogue and wife Christine of Giddings, Frances Klestinec and husband Steve of Creedmoor, Sara Dunn and husband Jim of Lakeway, Carla Eisele and husband Renny of Austin and Claude Pogue of Creedmoor. Grampa leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
he is also survived by sisters: Edith Spouse, Emma Lee Kruger and husband Melvin, Elsie Thiem, Dorothy Pearson, Wilma Edmiston; and sister-in-law, Nannie Pogue. Numerous nephews and nieces will miss Uncle Roy.
Mr. Pogue was predecesed by his first child, Pearlie Marie Pogue; his parents; sisters, Alice Pogue and Deanie Roundtree; and brothers, Aubrey and Claude Pogue.
Visitation was held Friday, February 25, 2005, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks, 6300 West William Cannon Drive in Austin.
Memorial services were Saturday, February 26, 2005, at 10 a.m. with Dr. Michael A. Roberts of First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown officiating. Burial followed at Live Oak Cemetery in Austin.
