Jack Lee Gehrs, age 80, a resident of Glendale Heights for almost 50 years, died Friday, February 15 at home. He was born January 10, 1933 in Quincy, IL. Jack was intellectually curious and had many interests: photography, reading, astronomy, computer building and programming, and aeronautics. He began acting in high school and continued in college, performing radio theater. His most treasured role was playing Straight Man to his beloved wife, Patricia. He was actively involved in serving his church family and community, often providing rides and meals. He is survived by his three children, Diana (Kerry) Crabbe of West Chicago, Eric (Yong Hong Chen) of Portland, OR, and Linda of Des Plaines; eight grandchildren, Elissa, Kera, Joanna, Norah, Brooke, Daniel, Joshua, and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Loleanna, Kaden, Emmalee, Jaxzen, and Zoe; his brother Dick; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and his half-brother Raymond Jr. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 21 from 4-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday February 22 at 10:30 A.M. at Family in Faith Lutheran Church, 1480 Bloomingdale Rd., Glendale Heights, IL 60139 with Rev. Stephen Kass officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Family In Faith Lutheran Church.
