Dr. Filmore Bingham Dead

Dr. Filmore Bingham, 72, perhaps the last one of the "old school" of physcians left i Watauga county died at his home at Amantha Sunday afternoon following a general decline in health covering a period of several years.

For more than forty years, Dr. Bingham had ministered to the ills of the suffering in Watauga and adjoining counties. His most active years of practice came before the advent of the automobile and the good roads into this mountain country, in fact such things had not been thought of. Although the roads until recent years were merely trails and the only means of locomotion a sturdy horse. Dr. Bingham was faithful to his fellow man. Through the rigors of the winter weather the practitioner went, never questioning the solvency of the patient nor complaining at the snows and sleet. He rendered medical aid, consoled the bereft and acted as general counselor to his patients and perhaps as often as otherwise with no reward of hope of reward. He loved hi fellow man.

Funeral services were conducted from Henson's Chapel Monday afternoon. The house was packed with friends from over the county and those adjoining who paid silent tribute to their fallen comrade. The service was in charge of the pastor, Reverend R A. Taylor, who was assisted by Reverend L. A. Hurst of the Baptist Church. Short tributes were paid by Honorable F. A. Linney and Reverend L. A. Wilson, after which interment was in the cemetery near the church.
