James Shields Gill

James Shields Gill, Sr., aged 69, died yesterday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock at his home on West Main street after a brief illness. Funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock from his home, conducted by Rev. W. S. Neighbors, assisted by Rev. S. B. Vaught. Interment will be in Jarnagin cemetery.

Mr. Gill is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie C. Gill of this city, and the following children: Mrs. Thel Williams of Tate; Mrs. Frank Jarnagin and Mrs. John Bankhead of this city; Mrs. Andy Smalling of Bristol; John, James S., Jr., and William Gill, of this city; also two sisters, Mrs. Aurelia Hooke of this city and Mrs. Rass Howell of this county; two brothers, C. H. Gill of Knoxville and F. H. Gill of Ada, Okla.

Mr. Gill for a number of years was tax assessor of Hamblen county, and was well and favorably known throughout the entire county. He was a member of the M. E. Church, South, of this city, with which he united upon moving to town several years ago. He has many friends throughout this section who will be shocked to learn of his death.

Active pall bearers will be: Collin Trobaugh, Gus Helm, Claud Rogers, Earl Grubb, Sam Taylor, and Tom Jarnagin; honorary pall bearers will be W. D. Bushong, Dr. Shields, Sam Holtsinger, Baldwin Harle, Tom Johnson, Will Hickey, W. F. Long, Gaines Stewart, John Carriger, Henry Jarnagin, John K. Shields, D. P. Turner."
