Born July 30, 1921 in Star Lime works, Ky. of parents Raymond Higgins and Lula Eva Higgins. She had 4 siblings who all preceeded her in death. She was visually handicapped and wore corrective lenses until in her 30's when she became legally blind. As a young child her family moved to alton, Ill. where her parents worked in factories. She began work in her late teens as a waitress in cafe's and resturants in downtown Alton. Then in her early forties she gained employment as a manager when the Ill. Sate D.V.R. (division of vocational rehabilitation) opened a greeting card/cigar stand in the Madison County Courthouse lobby. She later started selling coffee and snacks also and it grew from there. She had 2 sons, Charles Raymond Higgins (born 03-20-1952) & Mark Allen Cleveland (born 02-21-1960). She retired in the early eighties and moved into Skyline Towers Apts.. She died at Alton Memorial Hosp. on Sat. 02-09-2013 of Pnemonia.
