Enlisted for the duration of the war on 1/15/1863 at Scottsville, VA., he was mustered into (2nd) Company E, 46th Virginia Infantry as a Private.
Present on all Rolls through end of war.
Surrendered & Paroled 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

On 6/7/1902, as a 57 year-old farmer living in Alleghany County, VA., he applied for a total disability Confederate Pension due to "varicose veins, piles, and rupture." He was approved 8/27/1902 for $30 per annum.
On 2/4/1915, his widow, Nannie, applied for a Confederate Soldier's Widow Pension. She was approved 5/7/1915 for $30 per annum.

The 46th Infantry Regiment [also called 1st or 2nd Regiment, Wise Legion] was organized in August, 1861. It endured the hardships of the Petersburg trenches north of the James River and ended the war at Appomattox. This unit surrendered 15 officers and 116 men on April 9, 1865.
