--- Charley was born in Illinois. His parents were Jacob and Maria Elizabeth [Reis] Tervooren who immigrated to Illinois from Labbeck, Rheinland, Prussia in 1858. The family moved to Brown County Texas about 1879.

---He was the youngest of a family of nine. His siblings were Mary Elizabeth Tervooren [Strohm] - 1857, Melinda A.(Lindy) Tervooren [McAnally] -1859, Elizabeth Ann (Lizzy) Tervooren [Schultz] -1861, Frederick G. (Fred) Tervooren -1863, Henry Jacob Tervooren - 1868, Emma Lou Tervooren [Cason] -1869, Julia Tervooren [Heffington] -1870, and Laura B. Tervooren [Hutcheson] - 1873.

---He married Christina Wilhelmina Garms on December 30, 1902. He had three children Edith Leona Tervooren [Haynes] - 1903, Alta Vera Tervooren [Koch] - 1905, and Oren Carl Tervooren - 1912.

--- When Charley was age nine, his mother died when the family made a brief move to Stuttgart, Arkansas and then returned to Texas. At age 12, he and his older brothers, Fred Tervooren and Henry Tervooren, caught wild mustangs in the Eden /Eldorado area and drove them to Ft. Smith, Arkansas (across Indian Territory, now eastern Oklahoma) where they sold them to the army. Charley worked as a farmer/rancher in the McDaniel Community of Brown Co. most of his life.
