Henry B. Childs, well known as a citizen of Kent County for over 70 years, died January 17, 1900, at his home in Rockford. Deceased was the promoter of the Childs paper mill in Rockford and had large farm interests in that part of the county. Of late years he lived in Grand Rapids.

Henry Baxter Childs:
born in Franklin, Mass., Dec 22 1814, son of Asa Childs whose maternal ancetors were natives of Wales.
Asa had 3 son and 2 daughters. H. B. is the only survivor
Married Sept 4, 1839 to Miss Emeline Hawks, also and native of Franklin, Mass.
four children, 3 still living:
Adeline S. wife of Edward W. Paine
Horace H. manufacturer in Plainfield twp.
William H. a miller of Kansas City, Mo.
in 1845 came from Mass to Grand Rapids. In 1856, went to Chrisitan Co., Ill and passed 9 years there then went back to Kent Co., MI and in 1865 sold off his Illinois estate and returnrd to Grand Rapids erecting a paper mill in Plainfield.
