The youngest of four, she was born on September 12th, 1951 in McMinnville, Tennesee, daughter of the late Sylvester Layne "S.L." Rigney, Jr. and Sarah Louise Martin Rigney. At the age of five, on her own accord, she gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ at the Summitville United Methodist Church and remained of the Methodist faith in various churches for the rest of her life.
As a career, she started work at a small retail chain (that would eventually be absorbed by Wal-Mart) in 1969 at the age of 18. Throughout the years of hard work she found success eventually becoming part of the senior procurement team at the home office in Nashville, Tennessee. Following the merger with Wal-Mart in 1981, she took on a more challenging role as assistant, and then Manager of the local Wal-Mart store in Somerset, Kentucky, with almost 30 years of service, she retired in 1998. After which, she stayed busy with other business ventures and hobbies that include RV traveling, boating, and a surprising new interest in farming on her beloved "Autumn Run" farm, just west of Somerset.
Mary was survived by her loving husband, William Kenneth "Bill" Brewster, whom ahe married on May 19th, 1978, following a brief courtship; two sons, Mark Brewster and Bryan Brewster, both of Somerset, Kentucky; three sisters Ann (and Steve) Mitchell of Nashville, Tennessee, Carolyn Rigney of Hixson, Tennessee, and brother S.L. "Layne" Rigney III, also of Hixson, Tennessee; a very special friend, Linda Gosser of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Layne Rigney, Jr., who departed this life on August 31st, 1975 and Sarah Louise Rigney, who departed this life on April 12th, 2007.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 18th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Memorial Gardens, following a visitation Sunday, February 17th, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. with her first cousin, Rev. Gerald Sanders officiating in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF MARY,
If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free. Oh, if you could only see!
I have held our Father's face and I've touched my Savior's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked on the golden streets.
I've touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've even seen our Lords mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because "His Word" will show you the way. So please don't cry because we will meet again someday.
