Velma M. Morrison, 98, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, formerly of Warren, Ohio, and Hornell, N.Y., died at 1:45 a.m. Friday (March 30, 2001) in the nursing home. She was born Oct. 23, 1902, in Towerville, N.Y., the daughter of Harry W. and Minnie E. Becker West. She was a graduate of Jamestown Business College and was employed as a secretary by Niagara Light and Power in Jamestown and Hornell. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley A. Abrahamson of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Edward R. and Thomas C. Cook, both of Jamestown, Dianne L. Joris of Hornell, Denise L. Kaner and Lori Sickelpaugh, both of Greensboro, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Marie Destro and Elva West, both of Gerry, and Maxine Schruise of Lakewood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Morrison, whom she married July 27, 1936, and who died Dec. 10, 1996; a son, Edward F. Morrison on Oct. 10, 1998; a brother, Richard West; and two sisters: Marjorie Schuster and Eva Lindsey. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
