..............................................WILLIAM HENRY LYNN.........................................................

William Henry Lynn, son to George William Lynn and Elizabeth Hadley. Born at Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana, August 25, 1825. William's mother died when he was an infant and raised by Uncle William Lynn and wife Kezia McWhorter living in the same county at Blooming Grove. The Lynn's and McWhorter's were early settlers to Franklin County. Uncle William's sister Mary A. Lynn married Kezia's older brother John McWhorter living at nearby Metamora. Uncle William and Kezia also raised orphan Rachael Griffith. When William Henry and Rachael became adults, they married to each other.

"I give you a history of my ancestry" By Jeremiah French Lynn

My father was born and reared in Virginia. He was one of seven brothers and five sisters. I don't know in what state he was first married. His first wife's maiden name was Hedley. She soon passed away and left him a little boy. He named him William Henry and gave the child to Uncle William Henry of Blooming Grove, a little town a few miles north of Brookville, the county seat.

William Henry Lynn served in the Civil War with the 18th Regiment, Company( I ), Indiana Volunteers. He was thirty-six years (36) of age at the time of his enlistment into the Union Army as an infantry soldier.

William returned home from the War with the debilitating illness, Asthma. He applied to the government for disability assistance;

"The habits of William H. Lynn are of a temperate character, that he does not indulge in ardent spirits, neither carouse about nights, but retires to bed at regular hours." Another witness says; "William Henry was as hardy as a pine knot, but lost his health in the Army". Another witness concurs, claiming that; "William Henry Lynn never had the asthma before he enlisted and considered to be one of the stoutest men in the township, tough and hardy, that he had asthma when he came home on furlough and that he has been afflicted with it ever since and is entitled to pension."

This disability may have contributed to his death, April 9, 1885 at the age of (59) fifty-nine. William is buried in the little Blooming Grove cemetery, next to the grave of his step-mother Kezia Lynn.
