Edward J. Flynn, 79, died at 2:34 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Father John Luong officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1308.
Mr. Flynn was born in Litchfield on Dec. 5, 1933, the son of the late George and Ruth (Wilson) Flynn. He married Judith Thompson in Macomb on Nov. 22, 1958, and she survives.
He graduated from Western Illinois University and then worked for State Farm Life Insurance Company.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Flynn is survived by two sons, Michael E. (wife Rita) Flynn of Bloomington, IN, and Scott A. Flynn of South Florida; five grandchildren, Reilly, Cullen, Dillon, Brigid and Fiona, all of Bloomington, IN; brothers, Brendan (wife Jane) of Elk Grove Village and Daniel (wife Luisa) of St. Louis; and sisters, Catherine Flynn of Litchfield and Sister Mary Flynn of Springfield.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Riley, Robert and Stephen Schwab and George, William and Gerald Flynn.
