The same 1840 Polk County census indicates her husband John York was born in 1765-1780. It is suggested that the husband of Rachel LEE is more likely John William YORK, born in 1776 in Surry County, son of James Earl York, born 1756; died 10 Aug 1814 in Surry County, North Carolina. I believe this John William YORK, born in 1776 can be found in the 1820 Census of South Carolina and the 1830 Census of Sevier

County, Tennessee, then in the 1840 Census of Polk County, Tennessee. My conclusion is John York of this FAG memorial born in 1790 Nash County of eastern North Carolina married someone other than Rachel LEE in 1805 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.

This John York and Rachel LEE has puzzled many of the best genealogist over at least 50 years. According to the research of Dr. Ron York the consistency of the age of the John York in three census records is significant. Therefore the John York that married Rachel Lee matches the scenario of John William YORK, born in 1776 in Surry County.
