PENFIELD - Andrew Merle Johnston, 93, of Penfield died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the DuBois Nursing Home afer a short illness.
Born April 29, 1918, at Penfild, he was a son of Frank and Annie (Colby) Johnston.
He graduated from Penfield High School.
Mr. Johnston served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-45.
He is the founder of Andy Johnston Nursery.
Mr. Johnston was a member of the Home Camp United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed racing, hunting, snowmobiling and sitting on his porch.
He is survived by a son, Merle L. Johnston of Penfield; one granddaughter, Mrs. Timothy (Nicki) Morgan of Penfield; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Michaela; and a bother, Richard Johnston of Erie.
Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Betty F. Lowstetter, in 1992, one grandson, Michael Johnston; one infant son, Dennis Johnston; four brothers, Earl, Blaine, Harry and Woodrow; and two sisters, Mae Brown and Belle Johnston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield.
Military honors will be accorded by the Bennett's Valley Legion Post No. 978 Burial Detail.
Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received Tuesdy, July 12, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, July 13, from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
