Johanna Barber age 87 a former Connersville resident passed away Sunday February 10, 2013 at the Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon, OH where she and her husband have made their home for the past several years.
She was born October 21, 1925 in Frankton, IN the daughter of the late Melvin Burton and Florence Knotts Burton.
While living in Connersville, Johanna was active in the community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women; Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority and Altrusa. For many years she was employed as the manager of the Connersville City Utility office and has enjoyed retirement for the past 25 years. Johanna enjoyed traveling, sailing, and sewing.
She is survived by her husband Francis Leon Barber to whom she was married June 10, 1945 in Elwood, IN. She is also survived by her sons and their spouses, Richard & Janice Barber of Auburn, IN; and Michael & Stephanie Barber of Cincinnati; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Barber, Luke Barber, Melissa Barber, Robert Saley, and Nick Guerry; as well as a great granddaughter Rachel Saley. She is also survived by a sister in law Joyce Burton McClendon of Durango, CO.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother Clifton Burton and a sister Susan Richardson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday February 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating.
Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.
