His death is in the Truro Daily News of Friday 23 February 1923, under McPhee's Corner and Vicinity and reads "On February 4th our community was saddened by the death of one of its most popular and respected citizens, George Pineo. Although Mr. Pineo had been in failing health for some time, which he bore with great patience, he was not compelled to give up his duties until some two months ago. Medical skill being of no avail he passed peacefully away on Monday afternoon. Those left to mourn are his widow, who tenderly cared for him during his illness; one daughter and four sons, to whom we all extend our deepest sympathy in their recent bereavement."
