Funeral director. In 1890 with James English, they began the Carew & English Mortuary in San Francisco,California, with the final location at Golden Gate & Masonic Avenues, a lovely facility seen here. It was not the original location. They primarily had a Catholic clientele, and were near St. Ignatius Church and USF. They handled the funeral for Mayor George Moscone in 1978 after his untimely death. The building is still there, but the business merged with Halsted and Company in the early 1990's.
