A native of Jamestown, he was born Feb. 17, 1916, the son of John and Elizabeth Hagman Ecklund.
He attended Jamestown Public Schools and was employed as a salesman for 30 years by GAF Corp., the former Shelby Business Forms, and had been an associate of Paquin-Snyder Store. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he was active as an usher, lay leader, the Vestry, Mister and Misses Club and the former church treasurer. He was a member of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge 145 F&AM, where he received the Meritorious Service Award, a member of the Jamestown Consistory and a charter member and past president of the Optimist Club.
He is survived by two daughters: Patricia E. Sims of Greensboro, N.C., and Mary Beth E. McCoy of Snyder, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Andrew R. and Holly N. Sims of Alexandria, Va., Charles L. Sims of Raleigh, N.C., and Abigail E. McCoy of Snyder; a great-grandson; and two sisters: Elizabeth A. Stoltz of Winchester, Va., and Emmy L. Matson of Clairmount, N.H.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Paquin Ecklund, who died Oct. 5, 1955; his second wife, Grace Newgreen Ecklund, whom he married Aug. 10, 1957, and who died June 28, 2002; and two sisters: Carin Molinder and Marge Pressler.
