Hattie Ann Baxley, 91, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life will be at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Barnwell First Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Richardson and Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery at the airport. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, February 4, 2013 at Mole Funeral Home. The family suggest that memorials be made to the Infinity Hospice, 225 Barnwell Ave. NW, Aiken, SC 29801
Mrs. Baxley was born on July 17, 1921 in Hilda, SC, a daughter of the late Monroe and Bessie Rowell. She was married to the late Benson Baxley. Hattie was a graduate and valedictorian of Hilda High School where she played basketball. She attended Columbia Business College and was a charter member of the Iris Garden Club. She was a faithful member for all of her married life of the Barnwell First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over thirty years. She was active in all phases of church life and was a member of the Young At Heart group and the Busy Bees Club.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie (Marleen) Baxley, Sr. and Brenda Kay Baxley of Barnwell; grandchildren Jana Baxley Cryer of Milford Texas and Ronnie Baxley Jr. of Columbia SC; great granddaughter Ella Ann Cryer of Milford Texas; sisters Kitty Boyd of Orangeburg, SC., Gwendolyn (O'Neal) Hutto of Hilda, SC, Naomi (Bob) Hilliard and Ann (Eddie) Waldrop of West Columbia, SC and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son James Benson Baxley; sisters, Evelyn Windham and Martha Towne; brothers James Monroe Rowell, Jr., Robert Rowell and Douglas Rowell.
