In the 1880 Wapello County Census, William and Addie were living with their daughters, Fannie M., age 8, and Delaina B, age 4. William's step-mother, Anna Johnson, age 65, was also living with their family.
In William's marriage record to Maude, his mother's name is given as Elizabeth Henshaw. In the January 1, 1925 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, William stated that his mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Hinshaw.
William and his first wife, Adaline, are buried with his sister Priscilla Johnson and her family in the Elijah Johnson plot.

WILLIAM JOHNSON CALLED AT AGENCY
Batavia, May 9.–William Johnson died at his home in Agency at 6 p.m. Sunday after several years' illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Johnson, daughter, Mrs. Lana Rill of Agency, son, Jesse Johnson, of Sumner, and sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Barnhart of Spokane, Wash., and fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of American camp No. 1,800 at Agency.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Agency Methodist Episcopal church in charge of the Rev. O.J. Fix. The body was to be taken from the Davidson funeral parlors in Batavia to the home in Agency at 1 p.m. today. Mr. Johnson was a life resident of Agency. Pallbearers will be Ronald Johnson, Walter Gay, Rex Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Ray Jones and Harold Bolander.
