Ralph Strickland Ackerly, Captain U.S. Air Force Retired, was born in Tampa, Fla. Oct. 9, 1920 and died at the age of 92, in Clearwater, Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013. Mr. Ackerly served in the 116th field Artillery in 1939, before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1940. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and the Cold War era as a member of the Strategic Air Command. After retirement from the military, Ralph distinguished himself as an entrepreneur founding numerous businesses related to Real Estate, Insurance, Finance, and travel. Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Ackerly. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, June Baker Ackerly of Saint Petersburg; son, Bill Ackerly; daughter, Lynn Moore Ackerly, and Seven Grandchildren. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery at a later date. Sylvan Abbey
