Catharine F. Hebb was born on 6 March 1796 to Richard Hanson Hebb and Ann Maria Thomas Hebb. The Hebb's farm (Pyle's Delight) was a couple of miles northwest of Sharpsburg, Maryland.

On January 21, 1815 Catharine married James Nourse Chapline (1796-1830) a grandson of Sharpsburg's founder, Col. Joseph Chapline and son of Jeremiah Chapline and Elizabeth Nourse Chapline. James and Catharine had five children.

Children:

Indiana Chapline Bradley (1816-1836)

Jeremiah T. Chapline (1818-1876)

William Richardson Chapline (1820-1899)

Mandlebert Chapline (1823-1833)

Edgar Howard Chapline (1828-1913)

James Nourse Chapline died on May 26, 1830 at age 33. The location of his grave is unknown.

In 1857 a stone dwelling house (229 W. Chapline Street) in Sharpsburg was deeded to Catharine by the executors of a first cousin of her late husband named Joseph Chapline Hays. Unfortunately the deed was never recorded causing difficulties for the next generation of the Chapline family. Catharine and sons, Jeremiah and Edgar, were living in this house during the Civil War, although family lore suggests they took shelter at the Hebb farm during and after the Battle of Antietam in 1862.

Catharine Hebb Chapline died at age 68 on 26 June 1864.

"The Parish Records Kept by the Rev. John Alex Adams, St. Paul's Episcopal, Sharpsburg" Page 20, June 27, 1864 entry said that Catharine Chapline was "Buried at the Grave yard of the Hebb family on the Farm of Mr. Urias Knode. Mrs. Catherine F. Chapline, who departed this life on the morning of the 26 Ins. aged 68 years 3 M. 20 days."

"Washington County, Maryland Cemetery Records, Vol. 1," page 30 by Samuel Webster Piper, recorded before 1935-36,says the "Chapline family originally buried here but stones moved ca. 1884 to Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg."

No grave marker for Catharine Chapline has been located at Mountain View Cemetery or the Hebb Family Cemetery, now known as Antietam Meadows Farms Cemetery, so it is unclear where her final resting place is located.
