Mrs. Belle A. Cowan, 84, of Ellington died in the W.C.A. Hospital at 1 a.m., Dec. 23, 1960. She was born on Seager Hill, Town of Conewango, Feb. 26, 1876, to Harvey and Amelia Sage Bentley. Her husband, Clarence Cowan, died Dec. 2, 1943, and her son, Francis, Dec. 3, 1935. She had been a correspondent for the Register for Clear Creek for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Florence Cowan, at home, three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren and twelve nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cowan was a devoted member of the Ellington Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also active in the W.S.C.S. of the church until her illness seven years ago.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Ellington Methodist Church. Rev. Richard McEntarfer officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Bearers were Gifford Anderson, Ted Anderson, Paul Bentley, Glenn Brown, Jr., Frank Brown, and [unreadable].
