GenieBug, A Fallen Graver

Julie Ellen (Eggert) Getter, of Carlisle, PA, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9 at Harrisburg Hospital after a long series of illnesses.

Julie was born in Iowa City, IA, on May 8, 1944. She grew up in IA and attended the University of Kansas. Julie met her husband while in College and they were married in 1964 in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas campus. Due to Michael's career in higher education, Julie and Michael lived in numerous college towns over the years, including: Lawrence, KS; Fort Worth, TX; Cedar Rapids, IA; Lynchburg, VA; Oberlin, OH; and Hanover, NH; before retiring to the Washington, DC, area in 2001. They moved to Carlisle in 2005.

Julie was an executive assistant and office manager for some of the finest physicians in Cleveland, OH, for many years. She retired in 1993 after moving to NH. She was an extraordinary genealogical researcher for almost 40 years, tracing both her own family, as well as her husband's family, back to their roots in Europe-in some instances to the 1600s. Julie loved her children and grandchildren and focused her later years on their support. Her Thoughtful deeds and words will stay with them forever.

Julie also enjoyed gardening, classical music and helping her husband raise six Labrador Retrievers over the course of 40 years. They trained two of the Labs as Therapy Dogs, serving the Carlisle Community in various venues.

She leaves her husband, Michael; her son, Joseph, and his family (CT); her daughter, Amy, and her family (MD); her sister, Linda Irwin (TX); and her aunt, Isola Schletzbaum (IA). She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Lucille Eggert (Coralville, IA).

A private service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Newville, PA.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Julie's devotion to service dogs, please consider making a donation to The Service Dog Project, Inc., 37 Boxford Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938,
