Don married Ruth N. Schrader on October 28, 1934, in Hutchinson. She died April 7, 2004. He was a service manager for International Harvesters in Great Bend, Ks and retired in 1977.
Other survivors include: daughters, Linda Shultz and husband Cletus, Woodbridge, VA, and Sharon Garey and husband Keith, Sterling, KS; son, Ronald Stafford and wife Phyllis, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, David Shultz and wife Sherry, Alexandria, VA, Heather Fitzpatrick and husband Timothy Jr., Vienna, VA, Curt Garey, New York, NY, Kimberly Garey, Sterling, KS, and Courtney Vanhoesen and husband Matthew, Mission Hills, KS; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Don, two brothers and one sister.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastors Harold E. Nelson and Eldon Smith presiding. Friends may call Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
