Joseph A. Pennacchia, Sr, died Monday, February 6, 2006 in his Gurnee home, he was 78 years of age. A resident of Gurnee, Illinois for the past 12 years, Mr. Pennacchia was a former resident of Evanston, Illinois and Northbrook, Illinois. He was born November 7, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Marie Vidiri Pennacchia. 

Mr. Pennacchia served with the U.S. Navy during WW II aboard the U.S.S. Vesole. Prior to serving in the Navy, Mr. Pennacchia worked for Public Service Company (ComEd). Following his discharge from the Navy he came back to work at Public Service Company and worked for 47 years, retiring in 1987 as a manager. During that period Mr. Pennacchia worked mainly out of the Northbrook and Mt. Prospect stations. 

He attended Northwestern University at night while working full time at Com Ed. 

His enjoyed league bowling, served as a Past Grand Knight of the Newman Council #1077, Knights of Columbus. While living in Evanston he served as an usher at St. Mary Church. 

He is survived by his wife Nina nee Greenwood Pennacchia; children Joseph A. Jr. (Jan) of Wheeling, Illinois, James of Atlanta, Georgia, Barbara Ryan (Mike Blanchard) of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Patricia (Brian) Wilson of Edwardsville, Illinois, Thomas (Dawn) of Palatine, Illinois and John (Cindy Blue)of Northbrook, Illinois; grandchildren Stephanie, Sheila, Randy, Becky, Karyn, Alex, Katie and Tony, also survived by many other friends and family. Visitation Wednesday, February 8, 2006, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service, Thursday, February 9, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie. Entombment, All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60602.
