Mr. Barr lived in Sedalia from 1948 to 1969, owning and operating a Western Auto franchise store. He also established a propane gas route in the area for Skelgas. He attended Sacred Heart Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a communications officer in the infantry in the European Theater of Operations, mainly the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He received two Purple Hearts and badges for good conduct and marksmanship. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 20, 1945, after serving eight years. He was very active in church and school organizations and in the civic life of Sedalia.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, of the home; a daughter, Karen Holloway, of Seattle; four sons, Ken, of Sedalia, Steve, of North Carolina, Jack, of Texas, and Dale of Seattle; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three children, Jerry, Dan and Marcia.
There will be no visitation or services. The body was cremated. Private burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville at a later date. (THE SEDALIA DEMOCRAT, 22/Jan/2004)
