After farming for many years near his father's farm in Illinois he removed in 1895 to Wolcott, Ill., and purchased a farm there. At the time of his removal he had been for six years a member of the Board of Supervisors of Woodford Co., Ill. He continued farming near Wolcott for six years and then gave it up on account of his health. For ten years he was clerk and for six years of that time also treasurer of Wolcott, and in 1922 was elected township trustee for a term of four years. He is also a member of the board of directors of the State Bank, president of the Wolcott Community Library, and is engaged in insurance, rents, loans and real estate, and looking after many farms owned by nonresidents. Henry, as he is called by everybody, has always taken a prominent part in Freemasonry, being P.C. of the Knights Templar, and is now serving his twenty-fourth year as secretary of his home lodge in Wolcott. As a business man he has been very successful, especially in the insurance line, which he has developed in 23 years from practically nothing to a large business.
