Hitson BROWN information from: Encyclopedia of the New West
Father of Hitson Brown was born in France in 1772. He was a military engineer and was killed in the battle of Marengo fighting with Napoleon. At the age of 21, Hitson came to Savannah, Georgia and married Winford Ray. In 1823 they moved to Bibb County, Alabama.
They migrated to Upshur County in East Texas, arriving there Christmas, 1850.

1st deed to Hitson Brown in Upshur County, Texas dated 9/6/1851. Deed out of "heirs of Hitson Brown" to J.M. Mings dated 12/8/1882@ Vol. 6, page 64.
